25 Years of Art Collection Deutsche Börse
The Art Collection Deutsche Börse is among the world’s most renowned collections of contemporary photography. It was founded by Deutsche Börse Group in 1999 and has seen continuous growth. By now, the collection comprises more than 2,300 works by around 160 artists from 35 countries. It is dedicated to photography since the mid-20th century. The visual languages and photographic approaches represented are as diverse as the background, age, or artistic method of the photographers, ranging from documentary to conceptual approaches. Each position offers its own perspective on the collection’s central theme, the “conditio humana”, the exploration of the conditions of human existence and its position in the world. With the establishment of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation in 2015, the collection was transferred to a non-profit organization. The Photography Foundation is responsible for the further development, presentation and preservation of the Art Collection, whose 25th anniversary it is celebrating this year. It is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting and promoting contemporary photography. Supporting young artists is a particular concern of the Foundation, it promotes them through awards, scholarships or support programs. The Photography Foundation also works on exhibitions with international museums and institutions, as well as creating platforms for academic dialogue and research on photography.
During Private Art Kirchberg, the Photography Foundation is presenting the exhibition project “Favourite Pieces – The Staff Selection”. To mark the 25th anniversary of the Art Collection Deutsche Börse, the Foundation invited colleagues at all locations to choose their favourite photograph and developed an exhibition with the staff selections. The show illustrates which works of art are particularly inspiring, moving and fascinating. The accompanying quotes from colleagues on the walls of the exhibition explain why they chose these images.
