PRIVATE ART KIRCHBERG

The Fidelity International corporate art collection was started in the late 1980’s and currently comprises over 3,000 contemporary artworks by more than 500 artists. It is displayed in the company offices in 23 countries spanning the world from Australia to Europe.

For Private Art Kirchberg 2016, Fidelity International has decided to preview a new artwork recently acquired for the collection by US born artist Marina Zurkow.

MORE&MORE (the invisible oceans), 2016 is a series of generative animations, each based on one the highest-volume port countries of the world - China, USA, Japan, Russia, Turkey, Brazil, India and Mexico.

The hypnotic animations change and recombine continuously. Each navigates between a lively interplay of iconographic patterns that contribute to a sense of national identity. Logos, textile patterns and currency combine with container ships, cranes, helicopters, planes, and trucks.

Sharing the screen are iconic representations of weather, water, and time of day. Synchronized to the respective port’s time zone, each animation has a unique time zone, marked by the rising and setting of the sun and moon. Since ports are never closed, these stratospheric and celestial patterns indicate the passage of time.

In addition to this exhibit, there will be access to the conference room floor featuring a stunning installation by the ceramicist and author Edmund de Waal as well as print editions by Jan Dibbets, Robert Voit and Roland Fischer.
